Mechanical Keyboard Research

Recently I’ve been reading The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing by Marie Kondo and I’ve realized that some of the things I have don’t spark joy, especially my mouse and keyboard. They’re just boring. My current keyboard is a Redragon K552 with no backlighting (it’s discontinued) and my mouse is a Logitech G502 (Proteus Spectrum, because the new version kept double clicking.) The mouse does spark some joy with the unlocked scroll wheel feature, so I’m mostly focused on the keyboard. So I thought, “Why not get a keyboard which does spark joy?” And with that thought, I started doing some research on r/mechanicalkeyboards. I like the look of this board. Although, I’m not sure if I’d be happy with no number keys; I use them a lot while programming. On the other hand, maybe it’d be nice to have a keyboard which isn’t for programming. I spec’d the build and it’d cost at least $190 with Cherry MX Browns before taxes and shipping. That’s a lot for a keyboard, but it is totally custom.

Here’s the parts list: PCB, case, cable, keycaps, switches, plate, stabilizers (Disclaimer: I’ve never built a keyboard before and I have no idea whether these parts are compatible or complete :))

I’d like to continue researching this: it feel like there’s a whole world of keyboards I hardly knew existed.
