This one was tricky because I wanted to use volumetric clouds
(see this video), but in Blender 2.79, without volumetrics, on the world shader, and in Cycles. Almost everything was working, except I couldn’t find a good base shape for the clouds. I tried so many different combinations of gradients and textures.
I eventually tried a sphere gradient with unlimited Y and X scaling and it finally worked. The only downside with this method is that there’s no breaks in the clouds; they’re one continuous band.
I also realized that since I’m using sRGB, I can do the color grade in the shader. Normally I render in Filmic and then color grade before exporting to sRGB.
