If frustration is essential to the act of climbing, have I climbed? Or have I merely strolled through the park of horrors which others defeat?

Unscripted, #6
Today I continued reading Keep Going by Austin Kleon and I’m realizing how much I focus on results in art. So I painted a painting to just have fun. The painting may be good, bad, or awful, but that doesn’t matter: it’s evidence that I had a good time.
Unscripted, #5
Today I started reading Keep Going by Austin Kleon. It’s very interesting so far and I’m curious to see what parts I can apply to my creative projects.
Playing “Machinarium”, #4
I made some progress on the puzzles; I found some subtle hints in the environment. Still enjoying the soundtrack. I’d post another screenshot, but now all the areas have spoilers for the puzzles.
Playing “Machinarium”, #3
Today I continued playing Machinarium. The soundtrack is so good! It really completes the mood. I’m stuck on the puzzles right now, but I’m enjoying just standing in different scenes to listen to the soundtrack.
Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas everyone! I wish you all the best, whether or not you celebrate Christmas, and I hope you’re having a wonderful day!
Playing “Machinarium”, #2
Some of the puzzles so far are tricky and they remind me of puzzles in interactive fiction. The point-and-click mechanic feels like it takes the infinite possible solutions of interactive fiction and compresses them down to a manageable size.
Playing “Machinarium”, #1
Today I started playing Machinarium, a point-and-click adventure game with a distinct art style and soundtrack. I’ve had some of the soundtrack saved on my Spotify for about a year now and it’s finally time to play the game!
Playing “Final Drive Fury”
Today I played Final Drive Fury, a racing game I played many years ago. I had a brief quest finding it because I didn’t remember the name. All I remembered was that the main car was a Kia (an unusual brand for a racing game) and that I played it on WildTangent. A search for…
Playing “Getting Over It”, #12
Today I completed my 25th run and I heard two new quotes and a song I’d never heard before. I wonder how much more there is to discover. I also tried playing on “beautiful” graphics instead of 60 fps and wow, those clouds look so good!
An update on projects and plans for the holidays
I feel like some of my projects have gotten lost in the grid of new posts and I don’t want to leave them behind: Toki Pona. I’ve lost the loop on this one. I feel like Toki Pona comes to life when spoken in the real world and I don’t know anyone who’s interested in…
Playing “Getting Over It”, #11
Today I played on Android. I think I now understand why the mobile version has a reputation for being more difficult than PC: there’s no 60 fps option on Android. It’s not too bad, but still, not nearly as smooth. Also, the game doesn’t look as good as it does on iPhone. Everything is darker…
Playing “Getting Over It”, #10
Status update: I’ve completed about 20 runs and it’s becoming relaxing. The all the stages feel familiar and I’m not concerned about falling.
Discovering Katelabs
I found a really cool art program called Katelabs! It’s a level editor with a bunch of low poly 3D models and some creative limitations. The potential for surrealism is off the charts! I played a world called dream metro quadrilogy by bagenzo and it’s so good.
Playing “Getting Over It”, #9
Today I completed my first sub-10 minute play through and it was really awkward. When I reached the end, I waited for Bennett to finish his comments. But the moments were gone, and by his own definition, I had transformed his words into garbage.
Playing “Getting Over It”, #8
Status update: I’m still playing. Earlier today I was thinking that my last several posts have been mostly the same and that maybe I should post something different today. But playing “Getting Over It” is where I’m at right now and I’m not going to tell myself “no” for the sake of variety. I posted…
Playing “Getting Over It”, #7
Today I completed the game four more times. I don’t think I’ll ever tire of the ending. I just want to keep playing! xD
Playing “Getting Over It”, notes on run #1
I want to do a full review, but I feel like I need to complete it at least a few more times to really understand it.
So here’s some notes from run #1:
