Summer ’22, Day 66

Step By

Devastation. Loss. Grief.
Every day I walk past them in the sunlit hallway
Every day their eyes trace my path as I pass by

Years pass by.
A gray visage lounge. Step by
Strange specters in boredom. Step by

Avoid their gaze
Step by
To happiness who waits outside

What happens if I stop?
I owe them a debt of tears
Will they strangle me?

Hello
I’m here to see this through
What now?

A fall like crisp leaves
Words spoken under lamplight
Blue visions
Open hands
Steady eyes
Stillness
